My Songs

Simon's Song

This is the first song I ever wrote. It only took me 50 years to get around to recording it.

"Don't be afraid," he said to me,

"I am the Master of this stormy sea.

The galling wind is in my hand,

And though you think that you are dying

I will lead you to the land."

"Lord, let me come to you," I prayed,

And when his lips and eyes smiled at me

I no longer was afraid.

He showed his hand and beckoned me,

And when I stepped out on the water

It had turned to solid sea.

But when I felt the waves and wind

I lost my faith and feared again.

I dropped into the cold and salty

Water of my sin.

I screamed, "Please, Master, save me,

I cannot swim this sea alone,

For I'm a man of sinful lips,

There's something I have done."

He calmly took my shaking hand,

And when he looked into my fearful eyes

I knew that I could stand.

Back in the boat with the other men,

We watched him tell the storm be still

And saw the calming of the wind.

"Don't be afraid," he said to me,

"I am the Master of this stormy sea.

The galling wind is in my hand,

And though you think that you are dying

I will lead you to the land."
