A Prayer for Our Nation

I come to you in the name of Your Son Jesus in prayer for my own nation.
I pray first for wisdom from You even to know how to pray. The divisions of our country and within your church are deep and wide, appearing far more profound than the mere divisions of party and denomination that I remember when I was young. Can two walk together except they be agreed? And how can they be agreed if they do not even agree on what truth is, let alone on what is the right thing to do?
If there is one God, there is one truth, and You, O God, are one. I pray, therefore, that You raise up in our nation a prophet of truth who will not heal the wound of our nation lightly, but who will speak with power to uncover the idols that deceive multitudes and obscure Your truth even from those who are called by Your name.
In Your great mercy, overturn the strongholds of darkness that hold such a firm grip on the minds of the people--even in me!--and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved.
